As interim use for a waterfront site that is soon to host the River Ring development, dencityworks was tasked to create a mini-golf course for public use & neighborhood engagement on a temporary use platform in correspondence with agency requirements for flood zone construction and fair-weather use.

We engaged with 18 different non-profit organizations to create distinct Climate Change themed hole designs. Our challenge was to weave these different design shorts together into a seamless waterfront experience. Inspired by the Salt Flats of Trapani, we arranged the hole designs on a tiered platform that stepped closer to the water creating a dramatic sightline of the entire golf course edged over the East River. Like the narrow dikes of the salt flats holding back the mighty sea, the golf holes designs are small gestures that we hope will have a big pedagogical impact. The stepped vessel of the golf platform was designed to engage with the waterfront. In the coming years this temporary platform will make way for a an even bigger gesture & intervention that will manage the impact of sea level rise and create a space for the community to meet the waterline.
